Bruce's Bio...
Bruce
Slater is a successful businessman who has lived most of his life in
Chester and Lancaster Counties. Raised near the Brandywine River,
he acquired a lifelong passion for such outdoor activities as
hunting and fishing. The son of a WW2 veteran and working mother,
he earned his own way by gardening and doing odd jobs for others at
an early age.
Slater is a product of the
Downingtown, Chester County, School District and graduated as an
industrial arts major in 1975.
The year after
graduating, he enlisted in the US
Navy. He served as a 3rd Class Petty Officer in the WestPac
Fleet between Feb. 1976 to Feb 1979. He achieved the rank of
Engineman Third Class Petty Officer and performed assigned
maintenance on emergency diesel generators and fire pumps. His
missions took him to the Philippine Islands, Taiwan and Japan. He
was proud to serve and was awarded an Honorable Discharge. (Read

After leaving the Navy, Slater
returned to the construction industry. Today he owns his own
business as a contractor specializing in residential period
restoration. He has completed many restoration projects all along
the Atlantic seaboard.
Slater is a lifelong Democrat and has
been actively involved in the Party for several years as a Committee Person.
As a community activist, he has been actively involved in the
struggle to keep the management of a local community library open
and responsive to that community’s needs.
When asked why he is running for
Congress, Slater said, “I am
positive I can bring to Congress the
self-reliant, success-oriented work ethic that mirrors the goals of
my friends and neighbors of the 16th Congressional District. For
too long,
our district has been represented by a career politician
out-of-touch with his constituents. I am eager to return to the
service of my country and to help solve the great challenges we face
in the years ahead.”
Slater, 50, is married and lives with
his wife, Jacquie, and their daughter, Amelia, a sixth grader in the
Pequea School District. He also has a son, Aaron, who is 20 years
old and 2nd-year student at Franklin and Marshall College in
Lancaster. The Slater family has resided in Lancaster County for 17
years.
